Smart Home Cost in Oman (2026): Real Numbers, No Surprises

By the Intelligent Projects engineering team · Updated July 2026 · Reviewed by our KNX-certified engineers

The question every villa owner asks first — answered with real numbers, not “it depends.” Prices below reflect what smart home projects actually cost in Oman in 2026.

The short answer

A smart home in Oman costs anywhere from a few hundred rials for a wireless starter setup to several thousand rials for full KNX automation of a large villa. Our ready-made packages start at 980 OMR for the essentials (lighting, AC control, security and safety) and 1,480 OMR for the Gold tier that adds comfort and luxury scenes — see the packages page for what’s included. A complete custom KNX villa is quoted from your drawings, room by room.

What actually determines the price

  • Wired or wireless. Wired KNX costs more upfront (cabling, distribution boards, engineering) but is invisible, extremely reliable and lasts decades. Wireless costs less and installs in days — the right choice for finished homes. Read our honest KNX vs wireless comparison.
  • Number of lighting circuits. The single biggest cost driver. A majlis with 12 dimmable circuits costs more to automate than three bedrooms with two circuits each.
  • AC zones. Room-by-room AC control needs one thermostat/controller per zone — and pays itself back fastest of everything on this list.
  • Curtains. Motorised tracks are priced per window; heavy majlis curtains need stronger motors than sheer bedroom ones.
  • Keypad finish. A simple plastic keypad and an engraved glass panel with Arabic labels can differ by 3–4× per point. This is where budgets stretch or shrink most visibly.
  • Extras. CCTV, video intercom, audio, home cinema — each is its own mini-project.

Typical project ranges in Oman

  • Wireless starter (finished apartment/home): lighting + AC control in the main rooms — entry-level hundreds of rials, installed in days.
  • Essential package (Basic, 980 OMR): lighting, AC control, security and safety for the core of a home.
  • Mid villa (Gold, 1,480 OMR and up): adds scenes, curtains and comfort features across more rooms.
  • Full KNX villa: engineered from drawings — every light, AC zone, curtain and door in one wired system. Priced per point; ask for a free drawings review and you’ll get a written room-by-room quotation.

The mistake that costs the most

Deciding late. If your villa is under construction, the automation cabling must go in before plastering — at that stage, wiring for KNX adds modest cost. Retrofitting the same result after finishing costs significantly more, because walls are closed and finishes are done. If you are pouring concrete now, this is the cheapest moment you will ever have. How to keep the budget honest

  1. Fixed design first. We put the whole scope in writing — room by room, point by point — before you commit a single rial to hardware.
  2. Stage payments. First fix, final fix, commissioning — you pay as the project reaches each stage.
  3. Start where the payback is. AC control and lighting scenes deliver the most value per rial. Cinema and audio can come later on the same system.
  4. Insist on an open standard. KNX means competitive prices on devices forever — no single supplier can hold your home hostage.

Frequently asked

Is a smart home worth it in Oman? The AC control alone typically justifies it — cooling dominates every Omani electricity bill, and scheduling plus presence-based control cuts measurable waste.

Can I start small and expand? Yes — that’s the design philosophy we recommend. A wired backbone (or a wireless hub) installed correctly means each future addition is incremental.

Do you give free quotations? Yes. Bring drawings — or just photos of your home — and we’ll prepare a written scope and price. Book a free consultation or message us on WhatsApp.
